Michigan Congressmen Dave Camp spoke out at the national Kids Count gathering in Baltimore last month about current legislation regarding children in the welfare system. Camp (R-MI) and Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) have put together a bi-partisain bill that would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct research on indicators of child well-being. H.R. 2558, "The State Child Well-Being Research Act of 2009," is a reaction to the many deaths and injuries happening to children in the welfare system. If passed, the bill would supply legislators, advocates, and others with current and accurate information on the well-being of these children.

Some Michigan residence may not have to stress out this winter about keeping the heat on. There has been a bundle of legislation in the Michigan House and Senate trying to give people some peace of mind when it comes to paying heating bills in the often freezing temperatures that the typical Michigander is accustomed to.
