House Speaker Jase Bolger announced that making Michigan a "right-to-work" state will be discussed to see if it is economically relevant for the state.

“Gone must be the days where things were taken off the table because they were uncomfortable to talk about," Bolger said, with Republicans in agreement. Republicans have historically approved the idea of right-to-work while Democrats argue it doesn't actually create more jobs for the state.

Gov. Snyder has state that discussing the issue is "too divisive" right now and that other matters need to be dealt with.Twenty-two states are currently "right-to-work" states. Yet with Republicans having control of the House again, at least ten more states are considering the right-to-work bill, including Maine, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

Even if the bill were to pass House and Senate, voters would not see it on the ballot until 2012.

Michigan has lost 700,000 jobs since 2001. Bolger wants the employees to make their own choices.

“Michigan should help its citizens break the cycle of dependency, not create one for them,” Bolger said.
