I just finished creating a policy brief that lays out the demographics of the Michigan family. This is an important tool that those who are researching family law can use in order to sift through data and information on families in a more quick and convenient matter than is available on the US Census website. Here is a link to this policy brief.
I have also begun researching the issue with Michigan prisons that has recently come to the surface. As is well known, our economy is not at its peak and the Michigan budget has been suffering. As of right now, our government spends around $2 billion per year on the prison system and as to reduce these costs, Governor Granholm has requested a report from the Council of State Governments Justice Center. This report is sort of an outline as to how the Governor and the legislature can reduce some of the costs related to the prison system. Some of these suggestions may prove to be detrimental to society, such as an early release for prisoners based on their minimum prison sentence. More information will come as the legislature and the Governor decide what will be best for our state. Here is a link to an article describing some of the preliminary information regarding this issue..
