As has been discussed in the policy brief on foster care, there have been many deaths of children in foster care facilities. This is one of the reasons that the Michigan legislature has attempted to reform the foster care system. I think that it is absolutely necessary to provide improvements in the system because many of our state's youth are exposed to this system. And as we know, our youth is our future and without a successful childhood, our state's future could be weary.
The boy passed away in the foster care facility in March 2007 and now the parents are initiating a lawsuit. For more information on this case, here is the link to the article from UPI.com.
